Driving Safely: Next-Gen Autonomous Vehicle Safety Analysis

Driving can be a tedious activity requiring long-term focus—automation excels at this. As our reliance on automation and autonomous vehicles (AV) continues to grow, AV may one day become the primary method of driving. However, like any other device, once a vehicle is capable of connecting to the Internet, the risk of being targeted by cybercriminals dramatically increases. Maliciously manipulating AV at high speeds could cause severe casualties, and that’s only one of a myriad of outcomes. It is critical that developers, analysts, and users thoroughly understand the potential threats AV face today and will face in the decades to come.

This presentation will discuss the evolution of attack and defense techniques for vehicle security systems, starting from the common architecture and components of today’s vehicles and ending in an analysis of potential attack and defense techniques for the autonomous vehicles (AV) of the future.
